That black residue on your cast iron skillet is usually carbon deposits, which are not harmful. These deposits causing that black stuff coming off your pan into your food or onto your cleaning cloth are from the overheating of oil or fats, or bits of burnt-on food. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
